Welcome to Class 5
Hello and welcome to Year 5.
Welcome to Year 5! I’m Ms. Hayward, and I’m excited to be your teacher this year, along with our fantastic teaching assistant, Miss Ebdon. In our class, we will be celebrating all your amazing learning, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to earn Dojo points for your hard work and positive behaviour. We’ve got lots of exciting activities planned, and we can’t wait to see you grow and achieve great things!
This autumn term, we will dive into one of my all-time favourite books, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In maths, we’ll focus on mastering place value, addition, and subtraction. Our history lessons will transport us back to Ancient Greece, where we’ll explore how the Greeks lived and how their contributions continue to influence us today. In geography, we’ll journey around the world as we study different climate zones. And as Christmas approaches, we’ll get creative by designing and sewing our very own Christmas stockings—perfect to take home and hang up in time for Father Christmas!
In the spring term, we’ll begin reading an exciting new book, October, October, a beautifully written story that explores themes of nature, family, and adventure. In science, we’ll be learning all about animals, including humans, as we explore the amazing ways our bodies work and how animals survive in different environments. In history, we’ll delve into the fascinating world of the Mayans and uncover the incredible inventions and achievements of this ancient civilization!
In the summer term, we’ll be getting hands-on in Design and Technology, where we’ll learn how to make delicious flatbreads from scratch. In French, we’ll dive into the world of fashion as we expand our vocabulary to talk about clothes and styles. In music, we’ll explore creativity through an exciting project called Composition to Represent the Carnival of Colour, where we’ll use music to express vibrant and dynamic themes. It’s going to be a term full of creativity and fun!
