Sports Mark Award

school-games-silverWe were very pleased to earn the silver level of the School Games Mark for the 2015-2016 academic year as a reward for the increased participation in school sport during the year. This list shows all of the things that we had to do to achieve the award. Fingers crossed for gold next year!

  • a system in place to track young people’s participation in the School Games
  • opportunities that attract less active young people to participate in physical activity
  • held a School Games Day as the culmination of a year-round competition programme
  • a calendar of competition that demonstrates opportunities for young people with SEND to take part in competitions
  • a notice board promoting School Games activity
  • provide all students with two hours of physical education and school sport per week (made up of curricular and extracurricular activity)
  • engage at least 35% of students (10% for special schools) in extracurricular sporting activity every week
  • use the School Games formats to provide the opportunity for both boys and girls to take part in the appropriate level of competition (6 intra-school sports and 4 inter-school sports)
  • promote the School Games to parents and the local community at least once every half term, this can include through social media
  • regularly feature match reports and competition results on the school website and in the local press
  • engage at least 10% of students in leading, managing and officiating School Games activity
  • engage students in the planning and development of School Games activity
  • utilise sports coaches to support school sport
