March 2023 – Dance Festival
Y3 and Y6 attended a dance festival where they performed their class dances to children from other schools as well as Go Well staff and dance coaches. They all did a fantastic job!
March 2023 – Girls Football Event
Y3 girls had a great time at the Go Well girls football festival, developing their skills in a range of different activities.
Well done to all.
February 2023 – Tag Rugby Cup and Shield
2 groups of children from Y6 participated in a Go Well tag rugby competition at Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club. They all had a great day despite the bad weather and did the school proud.
The A team were the winners of the shield and received gold medals. We were very proud of both teams for their great effort and positive attitudes throughout the day.
February 2023 – EYFS Move With Max Festival
Our Reception class attended a ‘Move with Max’ festival with Go Well and had a brilliant time!
They won a special award for their fabulous headbands deigned for the under the sea theme. They had some great support from some of our Y5 leaders.
January 2023 – Y6 Basketball Festival
Some of our Y6 children attended a Go Well basketball festival.
They worked together to develop their skills and took part in some small games.
January 2023 – KS1 Games Festival
Some children from Y1 & 2 went to Spennymoor Leisure Centre to take part in a games festival. They took part in a range of activities and worked brilliantly in teams! A big thank you to some of our Y6 sports leaders (Brooke, Luna, Bailey & Paige) for going along to help out!
December 2022 – Rudolph Run
Thank you to everyone for their support and generosity in sponsoring the children in their Rudolph Run. As a school we raised an incredible £1,105.10 which for the Butterwick Hospice. Well done everyone!
December 2022 – School Gymnastics Festival
The whole school had a fantastic afternoon sharing their gymnastics routines for the other children, teachers and our judging panel.
Well done to Y6 for being our winners!
November 2022 – Y3/4 Wellness Festival
Some children from Years 3 and 4 got the opportunity to go to Spennymoor leisure centre to take part in a Wellness Festival. They all had fun taking part in a variety of activities about staying healthy and active.
November 2022 – Y2 Multi Skills Event
Children in Y2 went to Spennymoor Leisure Centre to take part in a KS1 Multi Skills Festival. They took part in a range of activities and had so much fun! They behaved incredibly and showed good teamwork skills.
A big thank you to some of our sports leaders from Y5 for coming along to support with the activities, so thank you Bella, Alfie and Kaison!
November 2022 – Y5 Sports Hall Athletics
Year 5 took part in an athletics event at Newton Aycliffe. There were running, jumping and throwing events. The children really impressed us with the effort they gave to each event.
November 2022 – Y6 Netball League
Our Year 6 netball team worked incredibly hard in the High-5 netball league at Ferryhill school. They showed great resilience and determination and ended the league by winning silver medals. We are very proud of you!
November 2022 – Y6 Gymnastics Festival
Y6 had a wonderful time at the pink gym. The children got to try out some of the apparatus and also performed a routine that we have been working on in PE this half term. They did a fantastic job!
October 2022 – Y6 Heart Project
Some of Y6 were invited to be leaders at a Heart Project festival this morning. They had to quickly learn how to complete an activity and then explain it to groups of children from other schools. They then supervised the children and offered support where it was needed.
I received some amazing feedback from the Go Well staff and teachers from other schools who couldn’t believe it was the children’s first time leading at an event. I am so proud of the children for how confident and sensible they were. We’ve definitely got some teachers and sports coaches in the making!
October 2022 – Y1/2 Dance and Gym Festival
Some children from Y1/2 got to go to the pink gym to take part in a dance/gymnastics festival. They took part in a range of activities: dance, bars, beam, an obstacle course and trampolining.
October 2022 – Mixed Football League
Well done to our mixed football team for 4 great weeks of competition at Ferryhill School. The children gave up their time after school to represent Dean Bank and it was lovely to see so many parents coming along to support the children each week. Mr Hegarty and I are very proud of all of them for their great effort and teamwork.
September 2022 – Fencing Taster Day
Children in years 4, 5 and 6 had the opportunity to try out fencing as part of one of our Go Well taster days for this year. Great fun was had as the children experienced a new sport.
2021-2022
June 2022 – School Sports Week
During School Sports Week, a number of different activities were organised. Years 1-6 all took part in a cricket festival with the Y5 and 6 pupils playing cricket games and the younger children developing their skills.
The children in KS2 also took part in a tennis festival. Some of our older children were brilliant helpers for Y3 and 4 doing a skills carousel and then Y5 and 6 played tennis matches for their teams.
Also, we welcomed some children from Wolsingham Primary School for the County Durham Friendship Games to compete against some of our pupils who haven’t had many opportunities for competition or have been less confident in PE this year. This event brings children from different schools together to celebrate the Commonwealth Games. We took part in a carousel of activities and football rounders and then we visited Wolsingham where they had even more different activities for us to try.
June 2022 – EYFS PE
Children from EYFS have been working on their athletics skills to help to prepare them for sports day. They really enjoyed practising the sack race even though it was quite tricky!
May 2022 – Y2 and Y3 OAA
Children from Y2 and Y3 visited Hardwick Park for one of Go-Well’s OAA festivals. They took part in lots of different outdoor activities including scavenger hunts, the floor is lava and a blindfold obstacle course to develop their teamwork and communication skills.
April 2022 – Y5 OAA
What a brilliant morning Y5 had at Hardwick Park for Go Well’s outdoor and adventurous activities festival!
They did a carousel of four activities: orienteering, fire lighting, team building communication challenges and a blind trail.
The children were a credit to the school as usual 😊
April 2022 – Fit For Life Taster Day
The whole school took part in a Fit For Life Day to relaunch this in school. We completed individual and group workouts and had lots of fun.
March 2022 – Y5/6 Netball
Some children from years 5 and 6 visited FBEC for a netball cup and shield competition. They showed great resilience and teamwork and the A team finished just out of the medals in 4th place. Well done to everyone for taking part!
March 2022 – Let Girls Play!
What a great time the girls had for Let Girls Play! This was a day dedicated to girls having the opportunity to play football. They enjoyed it so much that we are going to make it a regular event.

March 2022 – New Age Kurling Festival
Well done to the 4 children from Y5 who represented the school at a New Age Kurling festival.
It was great for them to experience a new sport.
March 2022 – Y3/4 Sports Skills Festival
Some children from years 3 and 4 represented the school at a sports skills festival. They completed a carousel of games activities and had a great time! The staff then had to choose 2 children who showed great effort and determination during the festival to receive medals.
January 2022 – Y5 Dance
Y5 began their dance topic by working in small groups to develop ideas for a short routine. They then put all of their ideas together to create a whole class dance.
Jan 2022 – Ready, Steady, Glow!
The whole school took part in a fantastic Ready, Steady, Glow day with Go Well. We loved the glow in the dark equipment and enjoyed playing different activities and taking part in dancing.
Jan 2022 – Y5/6 Basketball festival
Some children from years 5 and 6 attended a basketball festival at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. We were the only school who turned up so we received lots of expert coaching from Go Well and Darlington Storm and then played some basketball games.
Dec 2021 – Santa Dash!
The children enjoyed taking part in the National Santa Dash on Christmas Jumper Day.
Dec 2021 – Gymnastics festival
Our Y2, Y3 and Y5 children went to a gymnastics festival at Athena Sports Academy organised by Go Well.
They all had a brilliant time doing a range of activities and then performing a routine they had been working on in school.
Lots of the children were keen to start sessions at the gym so contact Athena here if you’re interested.
Nov 2021 – Our Netball Team Win Their League!
Huge congratulations to our netball team who have won their netball league at Newton Aycliffe leisure centre. They have been unbeaten throughout the whole league and won the deciding match tonight, showing great resilience to come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
Their teamwork has been incredible with the children also showing a great attitude to competition. I am so proud of all of you!
Nov 2021 – Team Up
Year 5 and 6 children have worked with Gareth from Go Well on Team Up 2 and Team Up 3.
Team Up helps the children learn about the brain chemicals and how to use physical activity to support their wellbeing.
Nov 2021 – KS1 Multi Skills Festival
A range of children from KS1 attended a multi-skills festival where they got to try out a range of games and activities.
They had such a fun time and practised some new skills.
Nov 2021 – Gymnastics coach in Y2
In the autumn term, the children in Y2 and Y3 were lucky enough to work with a gymnastics coach to develop their skills and produce a routine to display what they had been working on.
Oct 2021 – Y5 Leadership Training
Our Y5 class have completed leadership training with Michael and Ben from Go Well.
They learnt about the qualities of an effective leader and worked on designing games and activities for others.
The children are working towards certificates to award their success in leadership.
Oct 2021 – KS1 gymnastics festival
Well done to the children from Y1 and Y2 who represented our school at a gymnastics festival at Spennymoor Leisure Centre. They were all great role models for Dean Bank and enjoyed developing new skills on a range of equipment.
Oct 2021 – Girls Football Festival
In October, some girls from Y5 and Y6 attended a football festival at FBEC that was linked to the FA Primary Stars girls football project. Most of the girls had never played football before and many had never been to a sports event outside of school. Everyone developed their football skills and had a great time.
