At Dean Bank the intent of our music curriculum is to kindle a passion for music and performance in our pupils. We believe that music is an essential experience that should be enjoyable and accessible to all children. We want pupils to feel able, reflective and expressive, developing their own appreciation of music with the opportunities we provide at school. Pupils are actively encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments, from standard classroom instruments to instrumental lessons through a specialist music teacher. Through music lessons, pupils are involved in a range of musical opportunities, such as exploring sounds, listening actively, composing and performing. By following the ‘Charanga’ music programme, children are taught the building blocks of music whilst having fun and feeling part of a musical community with their peers, instilling confidence in their abilities.
